"It's Never Too Late"
Larry and producer/ engineer extraordinaire Chuck Turner have just wrapped up recording/mixing and mastering Larrys new cd entitled "It's Never Too Late". This cd represent quiet a departure from Larrys other projects in that most of the songs were written or co-written by Larry, and he's doing a lot of the singing as well, along with Janette Carter,Laura Cash, Ronnie McCoury, Terry Eldredge, Jaime Hartford, Leroy Troy, Chuck Turner, and Mike Armistead. Other guest include Uncle Josh Graves, Bob Moore, Victor Wooten,Rob Ickes, Ed Dye, Johnny Warren, Shad Cobb, Jason Carter, Chris Sharp, David Long, Tony Harrell, Tony Williamson, and many others...
Larry's been busy in the studio in the last few months as well, doing sessions with Emmylou Harris, Wiley and the Wild West (of the 'Yahoo.com' commercial fame), Rodney Crowell, Carlene Carter, Kurt and Valerie Storey, Wayne Benson, Ronnie Bowman, J.D. Blair, and Shad Cobb, as well as finishing up Curly Secklers soon to be released cd "Bluegrass Don't You Know". Larry has also been writing with John Carter Cash and Chuck Turner for the enigmatic mysterious reclusive supergroup "The Recording Kings" new project For those of you who don't read the "Rolling Stone" the "Recording Kings" is a band of incredibly handsome young men that are exceedingly talented but due to a genuine phobia of being too recognizable they choose to remain very much a cross between bluegrass stars "The Seldom Scene" and "The Rarely Heard", in that they do insist on being seldomly seen and rarely heard-.The similarities and affiliations to 'bluegrass' abruptly end there, however....acoustic instrumentation is seldom used on their sessions, they want no part of writing songs for their projects and they want no part of touring in support of their projects (past performances HAVE been marred by frenzied hormonally driven girls and effeminate men overwhelming the security forces and rushing the stage during concerts and making it impossible for the band to play... we'll keep you updated here on "The Recording Kings" and their new project
Update March 18-2007...we've been in the studio lately with Kurt Storey and Dr. Tom Butt, John Carter Cash and Chuck Turner on Loretta Lynn's angelic version of "Keep on the Sunny Side" (for the new June Carter Cash tribute due out soon on Dualtone Records.
Chuck Turner and I are still in the process of completing "It's Never Too Late"...Chuck has, as usual-got his parts all done.. the holdup is, as usual- me and the liner notes ...
"The Recording Kings" also managed to reconvene for a brief session that produced parts of the soundtrack for a soon to be released independent film...
December 17,2007- soon to be re-released for the FIRST TIME ON CD !!!
"Three Fingers and a Clawhammer"!!!
"Three Fingers and a Clawhammer" - featuring Leroy Troy, Terry Eldredge, and Larry Perkins was originally released in 1992 as a cassette. Since that time it's popularity has made it necessary to have it reprinted numerous times....The last time our supply of cassettes ran low Leroy and Larry decided it was high time the project be released on compact disc- ...Now for the first time ever "Three Fingers and A Clawhammer" is available in its entirety on cd, just as it was originally recorded by Mark Howard at STUDIO 1103 (straight to two track, no multi tracking, no overdubbing, no edits, and no studio tricks)... and includes two tracks that did not appear on the original cassette version. As a very special added bonus, we've included a track from the legendary Cordell Kemp, (who learned a lot of his music directly from Uncle Dave Macon and was such an inspiration to Leroy) and one from Wade Garrett who was ( and continues to be) a tremendous influence on Larry and was an early practitioner of what's now known as "Three Finger" or 'Scruggs' style and is a contemporary of Mac Woolbright and Snuffy Jenkins. ...
ThIs special re-release of '"THREE FINGERS AND A CLAWHAMMER is dedicated to the memories of Wade and Cordell and to the spirit in us all that inspires us to take time for our children
"
Our Congratulations go out to Curly Seckler!!!
UPDATE December 17,2007 the past few months have been hectic. Spent the better part of the month of September on the road trading on old banjos and guitars.
Enjoyed a trip to Oregon to play with "The Carter/Cash Family" , who was doing a show to benifit the music programs in some of the local schools.
Chuck Turner and I recorded bass/cello maestro Charlie Chadwick, bringing to an end the overdub sessions for our new project "It's Never Too Late" ..the release of this project is now really right around the corner!
