I would rather hear Larry Perkins play the 5-string than just about anything. The man is simply the best there is.The tone and the clarity he gets out of the instrument and his skill makes for some beautiful music. He adds so much to any group he plays with he makes the song his own.

Great to see you at Heydays this past weekend and catch the Station Inn Show. I'm hoping that I caught some nice stuff on video that I will post when I get it ready. You're a keeper Larry, I like your stuff. Wish you weren't relegated to the bass in back when you can do so much more. I guess you say, "someones gotta do it", don't you. I will be back to Nashville and hopefully see you again.

I listened to A Prairie Home Companion tonight, live from Seattle, and I heard a beautiful song. The only line I can recapture is from the chorus: "just a touch of the past is all I'm asking..." When I did a web search for that line, the only musical match that turned up was the name of your 1994 CD. Is it also the name of a song? If so, I want to buy your CD. I am just beginning a journey into learning (and teaching my young daughters) bluegrass music, and those lyrics express exactly my reasons. Thank you. Cameron Swallow

Hey Larry Thanks for the CDs. I sure enjoy them every day. I love your banjo picking and looking over your web site. Love John Hartford, too. It must have been a treat having all those guys over for jam sessions. I finished the banjo with the Tennessee 20 tone ring, and it sounds awsome. Will send a pic soon. Charlie

Greetings from Minnesota!! Loved your banjo playing on your first project tremendously. Unfortunately I've yet to hear your second project, so now I'll have to order both since I've about worn out my first copy of your cd. I've also enjoyed seeing you play with the Cumberland Highlanders on the Outdoor Channel & now RFD TV. Great group!! Is there any chance that you'll be playing at the Rosine, KY Festival this year, I'd love to see you play in person and that would definitely be a highlight for me. I've heard great things about the Crafters of Tennessee Banjo's but as of yet have not played or heard one. Perhaps I'll get the opportunity to try one in the future. I've done some research and so far the banjo's I really would like to try are the Sullivan & Crafters of Tennessee. I'd definitely like to to find a banjo that brings out the low end of the scale as much as the highs. I've been playing Scruggs style banjo for approximately 3 1/2 years now on a used Wildwood Paragon. I really love it's voice, in fact the one thing that makes me want to practice even more is the sound it makes. I just get a kick out of the sounds it makes. As they say "learning to play the banjo is a journey, not a destination". Best wishes from a kindred spirit!!

Larry, I've heard your name from Harold Crisco over the years, but never had the opportunity to hear you perform. Harold's face really lights up when he mentions you having dropped by to see him. I hope you will be playing some where in the Raleigh area soon that I can attend. My family was from a small farm town in Wayne County, NC. My father was a banker and farmers were his main customers. In the early 1950's he would come home every day at noon for dinner and would listen to the farm news on the radio(didn't have tv until 1956). I can remember hearing what was then called hillbilly music being played at intervals during the broadcast. I loved the harmony singing and the sound of the banjo. Now, at age 55, I love it just as much. In 1973 after serving 2 years in the Army, I decided to try and learn to play the banjo. With one year of college remaining to get a degree, I tranfered to Mars Hill College up in Madison County, NC to be nearer to people whose daily lives included the music I loved. At that time, local legends Bard Ray, Obray Ramsey and Tommy Hunter could be heard almost every week. Also, one of my favorite bg banjo pickers, Marc Pruett, was running the Pic & Grin Music Store over in Asheville. I never missed any of Marc's local shows if I could help it. Now I live in Raleigh with my wife and have a daughter in college and two boys in high school. My daughter loves bluegrass and both sons play guitar. In fact my youngest son(15) played his first gig at The Green Bean in downtown Greensboro Saturday night. If you are in Raleigh and calling on Harry's Guitar or Zepp Country Music, give me a call, I'd love to meet you. Doug Peacock 919-418-9973 mobile

it was through John's shows that I was introduced to Larry. It is good to get all this news and see you have a site of your own. I have some pics of the last show with John in asheville if you are interested in them for the site. Folks support Larry in his endeavors for I personally think he is a fine individual and deserves everything life has to offer. If you don't have the cd get it! Fine piece of work.

I'll be watchin' for a show in my neck of the woods. I enjoy your music. Lookin' forward to hearing the work you did with the Carter's. I always looked forward to seeing Mother Maybelle perform on the Opry during my visits back in the 50's. Did you lose a lot of weight when you were working with John? I hardly recognized you in person from the picture I saw on your first CD. Good Luck John

Perk, Love the website. And I am glad to see you are involved with the Crafters people. I have 8 banjo's and the Crafters is the only one I play these days. As you know, it just has a really great tone - It's as close as I've been able to get to that holy grail sound we all covet ... (And the others I can't afford) Hope life in NC is treating you good!
