"I LOVE YOU with all of my heart
honest, you must know it's true
and I'm not myself with no one else
like I am when I am with you
with you I'm on top of the world
I'm so grateful just to hold to your hand
assuring inspiring in angelic ways
you make me a much better man
I'm in love with the girl with the heart shaped lips
she's got big blue eyes and old Coke bottle hips
she's sweet as she can be, and I love to hear her play
but it's the corners of of lips that drive me wild
oh,girl I love to kiss your smile
Lord I love to kiss your smile
when we're poor as dirt or struttin' round in style
roughin it in Dry Pond or cruisin' up the Nile
oh girl i love to kiss your smile
Bob Moore played bass
Matt Combs played guitar and sang harmony
I played guitar, banjo and sung
I imagine most people over the age of 16 or so would be able to relate to this silly little love song in some way......
Some people I'm friends or acquaintances with might even think they know who or what originally inspired it. In fact I've already heard comments about it from people that swear they know what it's about - and they won't be persuaded otherwise.....
One of my favorite things about writing songs is that once they're written and shared , then it's up to the listener to decide what, if anything, the song means to them, or what or who it might be about....Seems to me that once a song has been 'delivered', it belongs to all of us and can mean anything or nothing to anybody -or nobody...
I've seen times I thought I knew exactly what "Kiss Your Smile" was about....Then something would happen that made me realize I didn't really have a clue...
(Personally I'm really hoping that I don't have any idea what it's really about yet...)
For the curious and those possessing an enquiring mind- I'd say if you think you know how this song came about or who it was about- you're probably WRONG....And if you don't have any idea- then maybe it's about us...
(the pre-requisite being that you are a girl)
