"Pick Like Earl"
this one starts  off with  a 1953 Martin D-18  (courtesy  Earl Scruggs) and  a Gibson L-5  (courtesy John Carter Cash)-then Laura Weber Cash, Elizabeth Long and I come in with a  trio in the key of 'G' that goes like this;

"Some boys see bright city lights
and they're lured by all their charms
they dream of fame and fortune
and they up and leave the farm
just to be in 'high-society'
and have a 'pin-up' girl
but more than anything
in the whole wide world
I just wanted to pick like Earl"
then the banjo winds down to the key of 'D' and the band starts playing ....
"I could have been a fighter
or a country music star
I could have been a poet or
a golfer under par
but when I heard "The BanjoMan"
he set my mind awhirl
and now more than anything
in the whole wide world
I just want to pick like Earl.....

The preachers on the TV say
we ought to be like them
and I do believe in Jesus
and abhor the life of sin
but they can keep their show of piety
their diamonds and their pearls
cause more than anything
in the whole wide world
I just wanna pick like Earl.....

Now I know that you are you my friend
and I know that I am me
and I do appreciate
au-then-ti-cty
but the more I  pick like Earl
the more I get like me
yeah the more I pick like Earl
the more I get like me...."

then the banjo winds back up to the key of 'G' and we pick a little
and then we put an ending on it that I picked up from Dave Talbot......

prologue;
  "And now good people-
As for the scientifical parts of music, I know nothing about it- but I can play...
and thank God a man that can't read the Bible can still pray..
Listen;  A man enters this life naked and bare
and goes through life with troubles and care
then departs this life, and goes we know not where
but we know he'll be all right THERE
if he lives all right HERE"    ('Uncle' Dave Macon "The Dixie Dewdrop")
